PASSION AND TRADITION

Find out what renders us that special

The birth of Le Tavernelle restaurant dates all the way back to antiquity. The rione Monti, as a matter of fact, is the first Roman district where the first urban settlement gave birth to the Eternal City. Le Tavernelle is most likely Rome’s oldest restaurant…

LOCAL TASTE AND KITCHEN

OUR KITCHEN

Le Tavernelle Restaurant offers a wide range of culinary specialties, prepared with care and attention, to all kinds of palate.

Beginning with the appetizers, the mixed seafood hors d’oeuvre is a must, as well as the hot and cold choices of the buffet with fresh oysters, while to conclude there is the “La dolce vita” desert, an homage to the film director and screenwriter Federico Fellini.

Among the first courses you can choose between fish variations like risotto, ravioli “alla Zarina”, spaghetti with clams, linguine or fettuccini with lobster sauce; or between the meat variations, such as, pasta with porcini mushrooms, fettuccini “Le Tavernelle” or lemon pasta, for those who want to taste something different.

The second dishes offer turbot, sea bream, sea bass with backed potatoes, clambake with various vegetables and the typical pinzimonio..

OUR SPECIALTIES

Our suggestions

Cacio e Pepe

Cacio e Pepe is a fresh pasta served with creamy pecorino cheese and pepper in a tasty crust of cheese.

Great typical cuisine.

. A big thank you to who recommended us this restaurant … It is a very nice homage to Fellini… The typical Roman cuisine offers a sublime choice between Cacio e Pepe and Amatriciana … I didn’t have the chance to try the rest of the menu but Le Tavernelle will definitely be part of the itinerary of our next trip to Rome. ✌️

ROMAN SPECIALITIES

Lamb “alla Romana”

The Roman lamb usually weighs about 12 kg and it’s chopped in pieces and cooked with garlic, rosemary, vinegar and white wine. It is served with backed potatoes.

Excellent trattoria in the Monti district.

A really delightful dinner

We had dinner at Le Tavernelle last Saturday and we were all satisfied. The staff is present, nice but not pushy. The location is traditional belonging to a typical Roman trattoria but not out of style. The tables are set pretty close to each other, maybe a little too much, but it’s very colorful.

Let’s get down to the kitchen: delicious spaghetti with clams, excellent Roman lamb with potatoes (the best I’ve ever had!), a noteworthy Cacio e Pepe, a perfectly cooked fillet. Although it was a weekend, and Monti was very crowded, the quality of everything was high. We’ll certainly come back.

OUR ADVICE

DolceVita

The DolceVita is a delicate dessert made up of a milky cream, served with caramel without eggs.
It was created and dedicated to great Federico Fellini, an Italian film director.

Grandma’s Recipes

It’s incredible how they are able to keep a 200 years old traditions alive… The location is typical and pictures of all the famous people who visited the restaurant embellish the walls. An old menu, which prices are quoted in Lire, is also exposed!

We had any sort of first courses belonging to the Roman cuisine and I, as a vegetarian, had a delightful Cacio e Pepe. The appetizers offered on the buffet are various, I’d really recommend them. Las but not least we had very nice DolceVita. No parking place nearby, but the subway stop CAVOUR is only a few steps away. Super-recommended.
